Chamisa misused donor funds

MDC Veterans Activist Association (VAA) have accused MDC leader Nelson Chamisa for allegedly abusing 165 000 Pounds donated to the party by a British citizens based in South Africa. Harare Post has established.

The donated funds was allegedly meant to finance the party`s crucial elective congress scheduled in May this year.

In a meeting held during the weekend in Masvingo,  the VAA members revealed that Chamisa used part of the money to construct his mansion in Sandton suburb, South Africa while the another fraction is being used for vote buying and intimidating party members who are pro Mwonzora.

The VAA members accused Chamisa of imposing himself as party leader after the death of Morgan Tsvangirai, a development that they said had divided the opposition party and subsequently led to MDC losing to Zanu PF in 2018.

The elders questioned why Chamisa is refusing to accept the 2018 harmonised election results yet he openly lost to President Emmerson Mnangagwa due to his childish behaviour divisive policies.

Political analyst, James Mutore says Chamisa is fond of questioning President Mnangagwa’s legitimacy in his political banter yet he is also an illegitimate leader who took the reins unconstitutionally.  He says very few have forgotten how he used brinkmanship, violence and guile to wrest the leadership from Elias Mudzuri and Thokozani Khupe, who were his party seniors.

The veterans, who held the meeting together with other MDC legislators, also blamed Chamisa for engaging in business deals with former President Robert Mugabe and for receiving $2 million from the Mugabe family prior and post the 2018 election.

The VAA revealed that they are plotting to mobilise youths from across the country to bar Chamisa from entering Richard Morgan Tsvangirai House for party business. To that effect they have also mobilised the youths to attend a High Court case filed by an MDC Pressure Group called “In Defence of Morgan Tsvangirai legacy” on 15 February to force Chamisa to hold an Extra Ordinary congress in line with section 9.21.1 of the MDC constitution.

According to VAA, the youths will demonstrate holding placards denouncing Chamisa and supporting the party`s Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora`s leadership.

Chamisa is allegedly moving around attending provincial congresses with a view to intimidating party members who are pro-Mwonzora. He allegedly tasked the provincial members to vote for their preferred leaders ahead of the congress using the hand raising method so that people will not vote for someone in his presence for fear of victimisation.  Chamisa has so far attended the Matabeleland South and North provincial congresses which endorsed him. Chamisa was afraid that the Matabeleland people would endorse Mwonzora over him.
