Chamisa immature: Commissioners

By Gift Mashoko

The Commission of Inquiry lambasts MDC leader Nelson Chamisa, regarding him as immature and that he should accept results of the July 30, 2018 Presidential elections and the Constitutional Court ruling.

Former Commonwealth Secretary General and one of the Commissioners at the Commission, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, told Chamisa that for there to be peace in the country, the MDC leadership had to accept that they had been defeated in the Presidential elections.

“You agree that the harmony in any country depends on acceptance and respect of the separation of powers between the executive, legislature and judiciary. The country works best when that separation of power is respected.

“In that context, I would have thought that you agree that the pronouncement of the highest court should be accepted and respected by everyone. The point you made about dialogue can take place but all within the context of accepted Con-Court pronouncement,” he said.

Chief Anyaoku is right because Chamisa’s refusal to accept defeat during the July 30 2018 Presidential elections is the one that is causing the commotion and disturbing the peace prevailing in the country.

Zanu-PF Youth League National Secretary for Administration Tendai Chirau, aired out his views with regards to Chamisa’s statements at the Commission of Inquiry.  Chirau said Chamisa should not be biased and should learn to accept his defeat and move on and to act maturely.

“A Commission of Inquiry is not a rally where one employs political theatrics or an institution above the Constitutional Court where one seeks to reverse election results announced by ZEC and confirmed by the Constitutional Court. On why Chamisa used one source document, the EU report, leaving out other source documents like the SADC and AU report. Why does he think that the EU report is credible? At that age you also wonder, why does he need to be told what to say by another person,” he said.

On his twitter handle, former MDC-T party spokesperson Obert Gutu reacted to Chamisa’s sentiments during the Commission of Inquiry, conquering with Chirau’s words that Chamisa should act maturely. Gutu said that people should stand for what they believe in.

Highlighting on how he does not agree with how Chamisa handles politics said, “In life, do not be a feather for every wind that blows. Resolutely and consistently stand up for what you believe in. That is my trajectory in life. Like me or hate me, it does not matter as long as my conscience is clear.

“I do not hate him. I just do not agree with this brand of politics and of course it is my constitutional right to believe in what I believe in, isn’t it?” he said.
