Zim set to sell 4 million tons of cement

This year Zimbabwe is set to sell 4 million tons of cement.  Financial Analyst Eddie Cross has described the development as a boom of the construction sector and an indicator that the country is making remarkable economic growth.

Speaking during an interview with Biz News Radio, Cross said, "We are going to sell this year about 4 million tonnes of cement in Zimbabwe.”

Asked on previous sales, Eddie said, “The most we have ever sold in the past is about 2.7 million tonnes.

“This year we will do roughly 1.8 million tons of cement into the domestic market.  We have a building boom that’s going on here, you can’t see cranes cause it’s all housing, this is a great indicator of the state of our economy,” he said.

Commenting of the quality of the cement that is produced by both PPC and Lafarge Cement, Eddie said, “Both companies produce a very high quality product with a wide acceptance throughout the country.”

Meanwhile Zimbabwe continues to make great strides in every sector of the economy ahead of vision2030 of an Upper Middle Income Economy. In the infrastructural development sector, the Government has managed to make great strides, recently completing over 200km of the Harare-Beitbridge highway, Parliament of Zimbabwe in the Mt Hampden area is now at 62% completion, tomorrow the President is expected to commission the just completed Chirundu-Makuti road, all these projects consume massive tons of cement, creating a high demand for the product.  Recently Government unveiled a massive housing project dubbed Musha-Muzi, with the aim of providing affordable housing for all, starting with the civil servants and the rest of the people. 

Meanwhile, the Gwai-Shangani river is nearing completion with 10 000 ha of land having been cleared for irrigation purposes, as Government continues to develop infrastructure vital for a sustainable economy.
