Acting President Constantino Chiwenga today received a new plane, B777 from Malaysia in a move that should see the Airliner flying the long distance London and Beijing routes, The Harare Post can report.
The Air Zimbabwe B777 touched down today at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe (RGM) International Airport and it was officially received by the Acting President Chiwenga amongst other government dignitaries.
Air Zimbabwe B777 aircraft was given the traditional water canon salute soon after it touched down marking it as part of the Air Zimbabwe fleet.
Speaking in Harare today at the RGM International Airport, Acting President Constantino Chiwenga said Air Zimbabwe needed to be capacitated in order to boost the tourism sector.
The Boeing 777-200 was bought for US$16.5m from Malaysia Airlines in 2016. The plane was initially acquired by Zimbabwe Airways.
The Harare Post has learnt that the much awaited aircraft is expected to promote travel to the country thereby boosting tourism arrivals from abroad.
The introduction of the new plane should see Air Zimbabwe reclaiming its air space and market which was now being dominated by foreign airlines.
