The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has announced that it will appoint a new head coach for the Warriors, the country’s national soccer team, in the coming days.
The position has been vacant since September 2021, following the dismissal of Croat Zdravko Logarusic.
FIFA has committed to funding the salary of the new coach, providing a boost to ZIFA’s recruitment efforts. The association has shortlisted five candidates for the prestigious role, with interviews currently underway.
In an official statement, ZIFA provided an update on the recruitment process, expressing optimism about the imminent appointment.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) is pleased to provide an update on the ongoing recruitment process for the Zimbabwe Men’s National Team Head Coach. After an exhaustive search and meticulous selection process, the following applicants have been interviewed for the position: Gerard Nus, Michael Nees, Marcio Maximo Barcellos, Antoine Hey, and Winfried Schäfer,” the statement read.
Preliminary interviews were conducted on Monday, July 22. A second round of interviews is scheduled over the next few days to ensure a thorough evaluation of each candidate’s qualifications, vision, and leadership capabilities.
Simultaneously, ZIFA is also working on finalizing the shortlist for the Mighty Warriors Head Coach position, with interviews for this role set to be completed by Monday, July 29.
“ZIFA remains committed to appointing the most qualified and capable coaches to lead our national teams. We believe that these appointments will significantly contribute to the development and success of Zimbabwean football on the international stage,” the statement concluded.
The appointment of a new head coach is eagerly anticipated by fans and players alike, who are hopeful that this new leadership will rejuvenate the Warriors and lead them to future successes on the international football scene.
