Sikhala’s birthday message sparks controversy

In his 51st birthday message, Sikhala extended his gratitude to individuals he claims have stood by his family during these trying times, conspicuously leaving out any CCC member from his acknowledgements.

"While we celebrate together the celebrations of my 51st birthday, dear friends, I would like to thank hundreds of good people who have come onboard to help my family. Fees for my four children, who are university attendees, have been paid. Thank you very much, and may God bless you all. Advocate Tererai Mafukidze, Dr. Grahman Stevenson, your contribution touched me. Honestly, you decided to forward such a huge provision of your share from your mother’s estate, Trudy Stevenson, the former Member of Parliament for Harare North and former Ambassador to Senegal, to my family. Thank you, Graham,” said Sikhala.

Furthermore, Sikhala took a moment to express his appreciation to Hopewell Chin'ono.

"Thank you, Hopewell Chin'ono, my friend. The friendship born out of pain of sharing a prison cell, for being a sincere and reliable friend. I thank all those who are contributing to the GoFundMe created by Hope. It is hard to find friends standing with you when you are under siege and attack from enemies,” added Chin’ono.

Political commentator Edith Mushore interpreted Sikhala's message as a clear indication of a rift within the CCC.

"Sikhala’s birthday message is quite telling. It’s a silent scream, highlighting the apparent disconnection and lack of support from his own party members. It’s unfortunate that at such a critical time, the solidarity within CCC seems to be wavering," Mushore stated.

Mushore further insinuated that Sikhala’s message might be a strategic move to shape public and international perception.

"Sikhala seems to be manoeuvring to portray himself as a political prisoner, when in fact he is a criminal awaiting trial in custody. This narrative might win him sympathy, but it’s important for the public to discern the reality of the situation,” she added.

Sikhala is embroiled in serious legal turmoil as he faces charges of obstructing justice. This follows his pointed accusations against the ruling ZANU PF Party, alleging their involvement in the tragic and violent murder of Moreblessing Ali, a fellow CCC activist.

Ali's life was brutally cut short in June 2022, and her suspected boyfriend, Pius (alias Jamba) Mukandi, was implicated in the heinous act.
