Sikhala forms new political party

In a thought-provoking letter, Sikhala appointed the president of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), Obert Masaraure, as the interim leader and key strategist for this new political movement.

Sikhala's letter articulated a bold vision for his political future and stated that Masaraure’s role would be to mobilise nationwide support for this new movement.

"My dearest Zimbabweans, I, Job Sikhala, hereby entrust the mission of organising, mobilising, and establishing ‘Job Sikhala Solidarity Chapters’ across our nation. I appoint Obert Masaraure as the National Solidarity Organizer. A veteran trade union leader and a respected figure, his role is pivotal in spearheading our grassroots mobilisation efforts,” reads Sikhala’s letter.

Marking a clear departure from the CCC, Sikhala expressed profound appreciation towards Masaraure and the people of Zimbabwe.

“He (Masaraaure), along with our people, lifted me from obscurity. Their solidarity was the greatest gift of love. In my name, he and others endured humiliation and suffering. As a beacon of unity and resilience, he will now propagate our message of solidarity across every province, village, street, township, and city in Zimbabwe,” said Sikhala.

Addressing his supporters, especially those aligned with the CCC, Sikhala urged them to embrace this new path.

"You are not on the wrong side of history. Reject the temptation of questionable politics. Stand firm in your convictions,” he advised.

Political analyst, Nobleman Runyanga shed light on the implications of Sikhala's move.

“The creation of a new political movement underlines the tumult and fragmentation within the CCC. It reflects Sikhala's quest for a platform where he can seek the support and solidarity he feels are lacking in his former party,” Runyanga commented.

Sikhala's bold step in forming a new political party while incarcerated not only signifies a major shift in his personal political stance but also underscores the dynamic and increasingly complex political landscape of Zimbabwe.

The impact of this new party on the country's political fabric and its ability to rally support remain to be seen in the unfolding chapters of Zimbabwe's political narrative.
