CCC on the brink of collapse amid internal strife

A source who divulged this information to this publication on condition of anonymity painted a bleak picture.

"The CCC's current state is volatile. Accusations and counter-accusations are rampant. Some senior party figures are being blamed for intentionally undermining the party, chiefly to spite the party leader, Nelson Chamisa," the source said.

According to the source, key players in the CCC who are staunch allies of Chamisa have pointed fingers at several notable figures.

Welshman Ncube, former Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Commissioner, Decent Bhajila, Collette Ndlovu, Gift Banda, and Tendai Biti have been singled out as the masterminds orchestrating Tshabangu's moves.

The source said that the plot was thickening as whispers of secret alliances abounded.

"This group seems linked to figures like Kucaca Phulu, Melusi Nyathi, David Coltart and others. They had about five meetings before Tshabangu's recall action. They are unhappy with Chamisa's dominating approach to the CCC,” the source added.

The source added that some senior CCC members were disenchanted by Chamisa's perceived preferential treatment of the younger faction, sidelining veteran opposition members.

"There is a palpable sense of betrayal among these senior members. They believe Chamisa's recent choices have come at the cost of sidelining seasoned opposition figures," the source said.

However, the source was quick to dispel whispers of collusion with ZANU PF.

"It's a fallacy to claim that these CCC members are liaising with ZANU PF. The party's current turbulence is purely an internal matter, a reflection of Chamisa's increasingly autocratic tendencies. This is about party members striving to rectify what they see as serious missteps," the source emphasised.

In a bid to glean more insight into the unfolding drama, this publication reached out to CCC's spokesperson, Promise Mkwananzi. However, the efforts bore no fruit, as Mkwananzi remained elusive, with all calls to his mobile going unanswered.
