The ruling Zanu PF party has ramped up efforts to fortify its grassroots structures through a nationwide cell verification exercise, underscoring the critical role of an organised and active membership base in its long-term strategy.
Speaking at an inter-district meeting held at Mt. Darwin Sports Club on Saturday, Zanu PF’s National Political Commissar, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, stressed the importance of the exercise, which aims to ensure accuracy and authenticity in Party membership records.
“Cells are our foundation as Zanu PF, and if we have a weak foundation, then we will be shaken,” Cde Machacha stated, emphasising the need for precision and diligence in the verification process.
The restructuring exercise, which initially began in Harare and Bulawayo, is now in full swing across all provinces and will expand further in March.
The process is expected to enhance organisational efficiency by ensuring that every member is documented correctly.
Cde Machacha warned that any discrepancies or poorly executed verifications would have to be rectified, with responsible officials held accountable.
“If it is realised that a shoddy job was done, those affected would have to redo it,” he said.
As part of efforts to modernise party structures, Cde Machacha revealed that Zanu PF is set to introduce an electronic database for cell structures, allowing for better communication and coordination.
He highlighted that once implemented; the system will enable the Party to contact each member electronically, strengthening engagement and responsiveness.
“This digital system will allow us to connect directly with our members, ensuring that no one is left out and that information reaches everyone in real-time,” he added.
Cell structures are regarded as the backbone of Zanu PF’s political organisation, serving as the party’s primary units of mobilisation and grassroots governance. Each cell consists of 50 members, ensuring close interaction between leadership and supporters.
Through these structures, the Party mobilises for elections, disseminates information, and ensures that Government programs are effectively communicated at the community level.
The verification exercise, therefore, seeks to eliminate inactive or ghost members, reinforcing a strong, accountable, and engaged party base ahead of upcoming political activities.
Meanwhile, during the same meeting, Cde Machacha reassured the people of Mt Darwin that Government remains committed to fulfilling Vision 2030, a national development strategy aimed at transforming Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy.
He highlighted that significant developmental projects were already underway in various sectors, including infrastructure, agriculture, and education, and assured the community that more initiatives would be launched to uplift livelihoods.
“Government is fully seized with delivering tangible development. More projects will be undertaken to improve roads, schools, health facilities, and agricultural productivity,” he said, urging citizens to support Government programs designed to enhance economic growth.
As Zanu PF continues to strengthen its grassroots structures and push forward with its national development agenda, the ongoing verification exercise and upcoming digital initiatives are set to play a pivotal role in enhancing party cohesion and community engagement.
