Residents and motorists have welcomed the completion of the Trabablas Interchange Flyover formerly known as the Mbudzi Roundabout—saying it will help reduce traffic congestion and improve safety at one of the capital’s busiest intersections.

The official opening of the flyover is scheduled for Friday, 30 May 2025, with President EmmersonMnangagwa expected to lead the proceedings.

Over the years, the Mbudzi roundabout had become a major traffic choke point, especially during peak hours, often causing delays and accidents.

The new multi-level flyover aims to ease traffic flow along Simon Mazorodze Road and other connecting routes, including Chitungwiza and High Glen roads.

Tendai Mandebvu, who commutes daily from Highfield, said he was relieved to see the project nearing completion.

“Even before it is officially opened, you can already tell the difference. Traffic is flowing better, and it feels a lot more organised,” he said.

Another resident, Sharon Makore from Glen Norah, said she hopes the interchange will also help curb petty crime.

“It was always chaotic around the roundabout, and a lot of people lost their phones and wallets there. With better road design and control, things seem to be improving,” she said.

Transport authorities have arranged free buses for citizens wishing to attend the opening ceremony, and refreshments are expected to be served at the event.

The flyover is one of several infrastructure projects being rolled out as part of Government’s broader development goals.

It was constructed over several months with input from local and international contractors.

While some residents have raised questions about project costs and delays during the construction period, most now say they are hopeful the new flyover will bring long-term benefits.

“The area looks completely different. We just want to see the final result working for everyone drivers, pedestrians, and businesses,” said a local vendor.

Once opened, the Trabablas Interchange is expected to serve tens of thousands of vehicles each day and improve access to southern parts of Harare and beyond.
