Zimbabwe’s 2025 National Budget unveiled, on November 28, 2024, by Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube, has received widespread praise from legislators who described it as a transformative and pragmatic plan aimed at fostering inclusive growth, economic stability, and social protection.
Chegutu West Member of Parliament (MP), Shakemore Timburwa, who is also the CEO of Energy Plus International, hailed the budget as one of the well-structured in recent years.
He emphasized the importance of fiscal discipline in ensuring its successful implementation.
“This is arguably the best budget we have seen in terms of addressing critical sectors like energy, health, and education while balancing the fiscal constraints we face. It is now incumbent upon ministries to adhere strictly to the allocations and operate within the budget to achieve the intended goals,” Timburwa stated.
Mudzi West MP, Knowledge Kaitano lauded the increased allocation to rural development and agriculture, which he said underscores the Government’s commitment to food security and uplifting marginalized communities.
“The focus on agriculture, with allocations to irrigation and climate-smart technologies, is a game-changer for rural areas. This budget speaks directly to the needs of our people, particularly farmers, and positions us to better handle climate-related challenges. It has laid a solid foundation, and has left it to all of us, the Government, private sector, and communities, to support its objectives. With accountability and collaboration, we can turn these plans into tangible benefits for all Zimbabweans,” Kaitano noted.
Shamva North legislator, Isaac Chinodakufa commended the emphasis on education and healthcare, highlighting their centrality to national development.
“The prioritization of education and healthcare funding reflects a Government that understands the importance of investing in human capital. These sectors are pivotal for any sustainable development, and I am confident this budget will positively impact lives across Zimbabwe,” Chinodakufa said.
The national budget, themed “Building Resilience for Sustained Economic Transformation,” focuses on macroeconomic stability, social protection, and infrastructure development.
Key allocations include, substantial funding for education, health, and energy, alongside commitments to enhance food security and empower marginalized groups.
Minister Ncube, in his presentation, emphasized that the budget was crafted with extensive stakeholder input and reflects a clear intent to address both immediate needs and long-term goals.
