Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe reiterated that Zimbabwe's judiciary and security sectors cannot be manipulated.
Addressing the press in Harare yesterday, Minister Kazembe dismissed recent allegations about potential manipulation within these crucial sectors.
“We, therefore, dismiss with the contempt they deserve, assertions by certain quarters of the community that the judiciary and the security sector can be manipulated," Minister Kazembe stated.
The Minister underscored the commitment of the security sector to operate independently, guided by the principle of separation of powers and adhering strictly to legal protocols.
“The security sector will disregard any attempt at interfering with its work. Equally, we commit to be guided by professional ethics in avoiding any undue meddling in the affairs of other arms of the State by any of our members,” Kazembe explained.
Minister Kazembe also lauded the Zimbabwean populace for their orderly and peaceful conduct during the just ended 44th Sadc Heads of State and Government Summit.
Political analyst Tendai Moyo commented on the importance of these declarations, stating, “The government’s clear stance on non-interference is crucial for maintaining trust in our security institutions. Ensuring that these bodies operate independently of political influence is essential for the stability of any democracy. When security institutions are seen as impartial and unbiased, they garner public confidence, which is foundational for maintaining peace and order. Moreover, this independence helps prevent the misuse of power, promoting transparency, accountability, and fairness in governance. In essence it protects the democratic fabric of the nation."
Echoing these thoughts, Chipo Dube, another political commentator, stressed the significance of adherence to professional ethics.
"This reassurance by Minister Kazembe is timely, especially considering the regional and international eyes on Zimbabwe after successfully hosting the Sadc Summit. Upholding ethical standards ensures that the judiciary and security sectors continue to function impartially and effectively," Dube noted.
Meanwhile, Government is thriving to fortify public confidence in its governance and legal frameworks, setting a precedent for future international engagements.
