The Chikomba West District came alive on Defense Forces Day with a spirit of unity and celebration as various community members gathered for the Defense Forces Tournament.
The event, which saw significant participation from youths and local leaders, was lauded as a day that brought the district together, showcasing the positive impact of the Second Republic under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Member of Parliament for Chikomba West, Honorable Tatenda Mavetera, highlighted the importance of the event, calling it a ‘unifying day for Chikomba district’ as it provided a platform to appreciate the ongoing developments in the area, attributing these to the efforts of President Mnangagwa.
"We are grateful to the President for the completion of the Makumimavi state-of-the-art primary school, which now includes a fishery project. This, along with the installation of boreholes in various wards and the initiation of community gardens, has not only created employment for our youths but has also helped mitigate the effects of the El Niño drought," Minister Mavetera said.
Honorable Tatenda Mavetera extended her congratulations to President Mnangagwa on his upcoming role as the chairman of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), highlighting the significance of this achievement for Zimbabwe.
“This is a proud moment for our nation, President Mnangagwa’s appointment as the incoming SADC chairman is a testament to his visionary leadership and the trust he has earned across the region. It presents a unique opportunity for Zimbabwe to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Southern Africa, aligning our Vision 2030 with the broader goals of regional development and cooperation,” Hon Mavetera said.
Chief Musarurwa born Enos Pfungwa of Chikomba District echoed similar sentiments, commending the Government’s recognition of young people in leadership roles.
"It is encouraging to see young people being entrusted with Government responsibilities, working tirelessly towards achieving President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, Hon. Mavetera has proven herself to be a listening and proactive Member of Parliament. Her commitment to the people is evident in the numerous developmental projects she has initiated and overseen across the constituency. From infrastructure improvements to community programs, her efforts have significantly uplifted the lives of our people,” Chief Musarurwa remarked.
He expressed his gratitude to the Government for responding promptly to the current drought through the food aid program.
"We have received 15 tonnes of grain for each Chief under the Zunde ramambo (Isiphala seNkosi) initiative, which has greatly benefited the most vulnerable families, including widows, the elderly, and the disabled. The distribution of this grain has been done fairly, without any political bias," Chief Musarurwa stated.
In support of these sentiments, ZANU PF District Coordinating Committee (DCC) Vice Chairperson, Moses Zhakata, addressed concerns about the distribution of aid as he dispelled notions of selectivity.
"President Mnangagwa is the President of all Zimbabweans, his leadership transcends party lines, and his commitment is to the welfare and progress of every citizen in this nation. Whether you're in the rural areas or the urban centers, whether you support the ruling party or the opposition, the President's vision and policies are designed to uplift everyone equally,” Zhakata said.
The Defense Forces Tournament not only served as a celebration of the nation’s military but also as a testament to the power of sports in bringing communities together and highlighting the progress being made in Chikomba West.
