Chamisa’s marriage of convenience with the DA has sparked within South Africa’s at the same time the DA party is caught between political allegiances and business pragmatism.
Guns have come out blazing against DA president John Steenhuisen, who is sacrificing South Africa national interests on the altar of his personal relationship with Chamisa.
A source within the DA disclosed to this publication that Chamisa has been actively collaborating with the DA president who has been making persistent unsuccessful efforts to persuade the SADC to relocate the 44th SADC summit to Cape Town, the political stronghold of the DA.” Meanwhile, factions have emerged within the DA party, with one group advocating for a pro-government approach while the other has adopted an anti-Zimbabwean government stance.
“Some DA members have questioned the logic behind the shift of the summit venue from Harare as most of them harbor economic interests in Zimbabwe. These DA argued that the statement issued by Steenhuisen was ill informed as it had the potential to leave DA grabby with potential repercussions from its business stakeholders in Zimbabwe,” the source explained.
Additionally, the source highlighted that DA members against Steenhuisen’s relationship with Chamisa raised arguments that the latter is battling internal rife and failed to penetrate Zimbabwe’s political discourse.
“Chamisa failed Zimbabwe’s opposition fraternity and his strategies proved to be politically immature. South Africa’s political landscape is totally different from Zimbabwe’s. DA as a party is business oriented and intends to thrive on establishing more eco ties beyond South Africa’s borders. Some DA senior members are shareholders in multinational companies such as PicnPay and Edgar’s whilst others have vast investments in the mining sector. Mind you, Zimbabwe is one of South Africa’s major trading partner,” expressed the source.
In an exclusive interview with Zimbabwean based political analyst Dr Alex Ndlovu, condemned Steenhuisen’s attempt to shift SADC Summit venue from Harare.
“Chamisa and Steenhuisen are struggling in their efforts to position themselves as the leaders of a new liberal opposition. Adding that despite their attempts their efforts have largely fallen short.
“Their strategies are dangerous to the interests of South Africa and John Steenhuisen is now trying to bully the ANC and all SADC countries. It will not work,” Dr Ndlovu remarked.
