Manicaland Province is set to benefit from a major economic boost, with prospective investors expected to inject US$79 million, into various development projects aimed at creating jobs and transforming key sectors of the local economy.
Speaking during the Digitalise Zimbabwe Expo Mutare Edition, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Manicaland, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, said the province is open for business and is attracting significant investment from both local and foreign investors.
“We have prospective investors who are set to pour in US$79 million into the province. These projects will go a long way in creating employment and improving livelihoods for our people,” he said.
Among the key projects, he highlighted the establishment of a US$10 million industrial plant that will employ hundreds of people directly and benefit thousands more indirectly through services and supply chain opportunities.
“We are setting up a US$10 million plant which will immediately create 500 direct jobs in the workshop. Over 2,000 other people will also benefit from this initiative,” he said.
He also revealed that Government is planning the construction of a major road infrastructure project at a strategic intersection known as Romio, where a modern interchange will be built.
“We are going to build an interchange at Romio that will be similar to the Trabablas Interchange in Harare. This will not only modernise our roads but also open up the province for more economic activity,” he said.
The minister added that the Forbes Border Post, which links Zimbabwe to Mozambique, will undergo a major upgrade to enhance trade and movement of goods.
“There will be an upgrade of the Forbes Border Post to improve the movement of goods and people. This is part of our broader plan to boost trade and regional connectivity,” he said.
Adv. Mugadza further informed that an airport was being developed in the province, a move expected to improve accessibility and support tourism and business travel.
“These developments are clear signs that Manicaland is on the rise. We are laying the foundation for a modern, industrialised province that leaves no one behind,” he said
Furthermore these efforts are aligned with the national Vision 2030 agenda, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy through inclusive development, infrastructure growth, and job creation.
