The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is witnessing a dramatic internal power struggle with that party’s spokesperson, Promise Mkwananzi confirming that Tendai Biti's days in the CCC were numbered.
In a bombshell revelation, a source who spoke to this publication said Mkwananzi declared that individuals who fail to demonstrate unwavering loyalty to party leader, Nelson Chamisa, would face swift and silent removal from their positions.
"The CCC will soon be history because their leader, Nelson Chamisa is busy removing anyone who opposes and advises him against his actions. Chamisa demands absolute commitment to his vision for change. Nonconformist voices such as those of Tendai Biti and Sengezo Tshabangu are being targeted. The party leadership has no qualms about making personnel changes to ensure ideological coherence and unwavering dedication to the cause.
“Chamisa is now planning to remove Biti and other senior leaders in the party. This move will see new faces replacing the old guard,” said the source.
This pronouncement explains why Chamisa blocked Biti from contesting as candidate for Harare East constituency in the 2023 Harmonised General Elections replacing him by Rusty Markham. Biti's absence from the crucial seat speaks volumes about the current political climate within that party. Sources close to the matter allege growing friction between Biti and Chamisa, with the former’s vocal dissent and independent streak clashing with latter's iron clad grip on the party apparatus.
While official reasons for Biti's removal remain shrouded in ambiguity, Mkwananzi's statement casts an ominous light on the situation. The chilling possibility of a silent purge, conducted under the guise of unwavering loyalty, raises concerns about the internal dynamics of the CCC and its commitment to democratic principles.
