Prof. Ncube labels detractors as charlatans amid CCC turmoil

Professor Welshman Ncube, a veteran politician and key Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party figure, has taken a bold stand against those opposed to him, labelling them "charlatans" and emphasising the importance of truth in the face of adversity.

Last week witnessed a surge of attacks on Ncube's character, with social media trolls attempting to link him to CCC Secretary General, Sengezo Tshabangu without any credible evidence.

Addressing the allegations, a source closely associated with Ncube revealed that he perceives a deliberate plot to distort the truth within the CCC for political gain.

According to the source, Ncube responded to the unwarranted attacks, stating that "I don’t really mind the abuse and insults. I seek no accolades from charlatans who think truth does not matter. We can never build an enduring democratic alternative based on deceit, incessant lies, autocracy, and deception."

Additionally, the source said that Ncube unfairly faced accusations of orchestrating a plot to organise a snap CCC elective congress, allegedly aimed at ousting party leader, Nelson Chamisa.

The same source said that social media commentators claimed that a meeting in Bulawayo, attended by suspected Ncube allies, discussed the congress, with Ncube purportedly volunteering to finance it.

However, the source said that Ncube has since dismissed reports that he wants to topple Chamisa as nonsensical.

Amid the internal factional strife within the CCC, Freeman Chari, a United States-based Zimbabwean political activist, came to Ncube's defence.

Chari, expressing discontent with the treatment of Prof. Ncube by Chamisa supporters, stated on social media that "for what it’s worth, when we were stuck distributing 'adopt polling station money' with only 48 hours before the election, he (Ncube) stepped up, and in 24 hours, all Matabeleland North, South, and Bulawayo were done, something Mashonaland failed.”

As the CCC grapples with internal challenges following the recall of its legislators and councillors by Tshabangu, Ncube's resolute stance and clarifications seek to dispel misinformation and underscore the commitment to truth and democratic principles within the CCC.

Meanwhile, the ongoing turmoil in the CCC underscores the intricacies of party politics, with Ncube positioning himself as a steadfast advocate for transparency and truth in the face of adversity.
