A Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) splinter faction, Maruva Cabal invoked its influence in Harare City Council (HCC) and directed the Municipal Traffic Police to target Nelson Chamisa’s personal vehicle.
Revelations were that Chamisa’s personal vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, was clamped and fined a whooping US$160 by the Municipal police at his Advocate chambers.
Sources from the Maruva cabal told this publication that Chamisa was side-lining them in the CCC’s decision making matrix resultantly angering the cabal. Allegations are that HCC Mayor, Jacob Mafume was of late warming up to the Maruva cabal after clashing with Chamisa on several occasions.
Additionally, the source revealed that after his vehicle was clamped, angry Chamisa called Mayor Mafume complaining about the conduct of the Municipal police officers Mafume reportedly promised to look into the matter which he did after four hours, further angering Chamisa.
“Mayor Mafume told Chamisa that he would look into the matter and dispatch a team that will assist the opposition leader. The said team took about four hours to respond to the matter which forced Chamisa to use Agency Gumbo’s vehicle as he was rushing to attend some meetings in Westgate on the day”, said the source.
Another source who requested for anonymity told this publication that the Maruva cabal was unconvinced that Chamisa would defend their candidatures in the forthcoming general harmonised elections. Allegations were that Chamisa secretly drafted a list of would be party representatives and missing were big Maruva cabal names such as Murisi Zwizwai, Charlton Hwende, Tendai Biti and Jacob Mafume among others.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Chamisa is contemplating throwing CCC’s senior leaders into the political dustbin opting to work with the ‘Young Turks’.
