Cracks have emerged in the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) amid reports that the young Turks in that party want Nelson Chamisa to allocate more parliamentary slots to them in the forthcoming elections.
A source who spoke to this publication said that CCC youths led by interim Deputy Spokesperson, Gift ‘Ostallos’ Siziba and Munyaradzi Macmillan Rimbi want Chamisa to retire the old guard and allow the youths to contest in the forthcoming elections on behalf of that party.
According to the source, a group of youths led by Rimbi had a meeting with Siziba where they implored him to use his proximity to Chamisa to compel him to support the idea of retiring the old guard. The source said Siziba agreed to do that.
“The youths led by Siziba and Rimbi want the young Turks in the party to be given a chance to contest in the forthcoming elections. The youths believe that the old guard has nothing new to offer, hence they should be retired,” said the source.
The source added that the youths within CCC were of the view that they should be prioritised as far as parliamentary and council candidates selection was concerned because they constitute the bulk of that party’s support base.
However, the source said that the old guard had vowed to resist machinations to relegate them to the peripheries of that party’s affairs.
“The old guards have vowed to resist any machinations to relegate them to the peripheries of the party’s affairs arguing that they have the political muscle to defeat ZANU PF candidates in the forthcoming elections. The old guards are contemplating approaching Chamisa to tell him not to be controlled by the youths as that might cause that party to implode,” said the source.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Siziba is eyeing the Harare Central seat currently being held by Murisi Zwizwai while Rimbi is eyeing Harare East constituency held by Tendai Biti.
