Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is on a move to partner with wayward church leaders for the purpose of inciting civil disobedience ahead of the 2023 Harmonized General Elections.
The Harare Post has it on good authority that a section of Roman Catholic Bishops has been hired by CCC to rant anti-Government sentiments in their sermons to encourage congregants to work against Government.
A highly placed Catholic source that confided in this publication claimed to be in possession of an audio recording of one of the Bishops castigating Government in a recent sermon. The source added that there was a deliberate targeting of disgruntled clergymen with an obviously wretched past to naysay against Government.
The bishop in question is reportedly unpopular with other church leaders after he had been accused of using black magic to out maneuver his Diocese leadership.
A congregant who worships at the Bishop’s Diocese and whose niece was employed as a maid at the leader’s home reportedly left the job in a huff after she walked in on him in the company of well-known CCC activists in Mashonaland West. The niece is also said to have divulged that prominent traditional healers (names withheld) frequented the Bishop’s home.
“The Bishop is very ambitious and can be very pushy generally as a character. He is one person who wants things to go his way regardless of what everyone else thinks about a particular subject. This has seen him fall out with the rest of the Diocese leadership. They say he has close connections politically and uses juju” said the congregant.
The congregant added that, “before l switched Dioceses, my niece was once employed by Bishop (name withheld). She often told stories of very sinister individuals holding meetings that lasted way into the night with the clergymen. She said opposition politicians and sangomas would visit during odd hours for God knows what business.
Social commentator and philanthropist, Pastor Tinashe Mirimi said “Churches play a pivotal role as social cement amongst a people and they are a go to place for spiritual and moral support. Politicizing the pulpit is thus just a disservice to the Christian community. It’s a pity that politicians feast on any grouping of people, given a chance they can even court an army of witches just for the votes.”
