Preparations for Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) Day and Heroes Day have begun in earnest with the main event expected to be held in Harare whilst other Provinces will also host commemorations in their respective designated points.
Speaking after a Cabinet meeting, Acting Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Jenfan Muswere said this year’s Defence Forces Day will be held under the theme Zimbabwe Defence Forces-Creating a Conducive Environment for the Attainment of Vision 2030.
The ZDF will also carry out Community Assistance projects between periods of 1st to 5th of August and finished projects will be officially handed over by Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri. During this same period, the ZDF will also carry out a week long outreach programme to treat people with minor ailments for free.
“Cabinet also wishes to inform the nation that the 2022 Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day Celebrations will be held on 9th August, with the main event taking place at the National Sports Stadium in Harare under the theme, “Zimbabwe Defence Forces-Creating a Conducive Environment for the Attainment of Vision 2030.”
“The nation is informed that the Zimbabwe Defence Forces will carry out Community Assistance Projects from 1st to 5th August 2022, and that the completed projects will be handed over to the communities by the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs. The Zimbabwe Defence Forces will also carry out a week-long medical outreach during which there will be free consultations and treatment for minor ailments,” said Minister Muswere.
Government through the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises will ensure that the National dress fabric is readily available at all selected outlets in time for the Heroes and ZDF day; hence people are encouraged to wear the dressing on this special day.
Meanwhile, government through Central Mechanical Equipment Department (CMED) has already embarked on a process for the provision of 50 buses for the main celebration in Harare. Each province will also have 2 buses for transporting people to the various Provincial venues. Four Buses will also be provided to ZDF, ZRP will also have four buses and another four buses have been allocated to Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS).
The program for the event is already in place, it includes entertainment by different musical artists, a traditional dance group from Botswana, Defence Forces Displays and a soccer match between selected arms from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and Botswana Defence Forces.
