President Emmerson Mnangagwa has applauded the girl child following the participation in the International Moot Court Competition which saw the Zimbabwe team being crowned the world champions of the High School International Moot Court Competition.
Speaking at a function held at State House in honour of the Moot Court team as well as Major Winnie Zharare of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces yesterday, President Mnangagwa congratulated the Zimbabwe Moot Court team for flying the national flag high and becoming both the World and European Champions in the Moot Court Competition held recently in Romania.
“The girls and boys of the Zimbabwe Moot Court team must be recognized as an emblem of the potential and talent that exists among the young people of our great country. Indeed, the team has proven to be a beacon of excellence in problem analysis, research and oral presentation.
“I am proud of our team. Zimbabwe is proud of each and every one of you. From the 14th to the 25th of May 2022, you participated virtually in the International Moot Court Competition held in the USA,” said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa was pleased to know that Zimbabwe was the only African country among the16 countries which participated in Moot Court competition.
“I am told that amongst the 16 countries participating, Zimbabwe was the only African Country and you managed to brush aside American and European competition to be crowned world champions of the High School International Moot Court Competition,” said President Mnangagwa
He said the Government would continue to improve the requisite learning environment for learners so that they are able to compete and match up to their peers from across the world.
The Zimbabwe Moot team comprised of eleven members who were drawn from four different schools namely Domican Convent, Arundel, Peterhouse and Midlands Christian College.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa honoured Major Winnie Zharare for representing the country with flying colours in her tour of duty as a military observer in the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMISS).
Major Zharare’s distinguished performance saw her earning the coveted 2021 United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the year Award.
“As Commander in Chief, I recognize that every soldier distinguishes themselves through winning battles. However, this achievement speaks volumes of Major Zharare's dedication to duty as well as her capabilities with regards to meeting the set UN criteria, for the award.
“It is also a reflection of the high calibre of officers within our Zimbabwe Defence Forces. On 26 May 2022, the United Nations Secretary General presented Major Zharare with the Award in New York. This was in recognition of her invaluable role as a woman officer in building trust, advocating for change and forging for peace in the Mission area,” said the President.
For her sterling work, Major Zharare received a token of appreciation of US$10 000.
