The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has reportedly hired Professor Stephen Chan to be its advisor ahead of the 2023 plebiscite.
A source who spoke to this publication said that Prof Chan, who was recently in the country, met with CCC leader Nelson Chamisa as well as CCC activist, Hopewell Chin’ono and discussed on how that party could win the forthcoming elections.
According to the source, Chamisa told Chan that he values his knowledge on world politics and wanted him to advise the CCC on its electoral strategy as the party currently has no political scientist among its ranks.
“Chamisa and Chin’ono met separately with Prof Chan. However, they both begged Chan to be CCC advisor ahead of the 2023 Harmonised General Elections. Chamisa told Chan that CCC has no political scientist among its ranks so he wanted Chan to advise that party on the electoral strategies to use in the forthcoming elections,” said the source.
The source added that on his meeting with Chan, Chin’ono lamented that CCC had no proactive people and he argued that most of the CCC members were violent thugs with no alternative ideas on how to dethrone ZANU PF.
Chin’ono reportedly bragged that without him, CCC would have no meaningful presence on social media as its members have no muscle to match ZANU PF’s cyber warriors pound for pound.
According to the source, Chan told both Chamisa and Chin’ono that he was willing to assist if the party agrees to his terms. However, Prof Chan did not elaborate on his terms.
“Chan reportedly told Chamisa and Chin’ono that he was willing to assist with mobilisation strategies ahead of the 2023 Harmonised General Elections. However, he said his intellectual property was for sale and that Chamisa would have to pay for his services. We are likely to see another #GoFundMe initiative meant to raise funds for Chan,” said the source.
Meanwhile, in their tweets yesterday, both Chamisa and Chin’ono revealed that they indeed met with Chan but didn’t disclose the details of their meeting.
