Government has cleared the loan facility advanced by Shelter Afrique amounting to US$350 000.
Speaking through a statement yesterday, Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Daniel Garwe expressed gratitude to President Emmerson Mnangagwa for paying off the loan that the Government of Zimbabwe owed to Shelter Afrique, highlighting that the debt clearance had created many opportunities for the nation.
“I would like to thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa for clearing a Shelter Afrique debt of US$350 000. This has surely unlocked many opportunities for the country, which is now in a position to receive another loan from Shelter Afrique valued at US$25 million before year end,” said Minister Garwe.
Minister Garwe promised the nation that as the incoming Chairperson of Shelter Afrique, he would ensure that the banking institutions and infrastructure development companies access loans from Shelter Afrique.
He added that the banks in Zimbabwe were on record for managing to pay off their loans to Shelter Afrique.
“Our banks have done so well in terms of paying off their loans. Those that have managed to benefit from the loan facility have paid off their loans. CBZ, Banc ABC, FBC Bank and CABS,” said Minister Garwe.
Zimbabwe is set to host the Shelter Afrique 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 25th of July 2020, with at least ten countries having confirmed their attendance.
“Shelter Afrique has got 45 shareholders and all the shareholders are countries. We are hoping that everybody will attend, but as you are aware, some may attend and some may be committed to other things. As of now, I am told that about ten countries have already affirmed attendance which is a good number to start with and we are confident that by end of this week more countries would have confirmed,” said Minister Garwe.
Minister Garwe revealed that the private sector will also participate on the day.
“In terms of private sector participation, I know that Afriximbank is coming, African Development Bank is coming and Governors from some if not all African countries will also be there. The Private sector locally is also ready to go,” said the Minister.
Shelter Afrique AGM will be held in Victoria Falls on the 25th of July 2020. Shelter Afrique is the only pan-African finance institution that exclusively supports the development of the housing and real estate sector in Africa.
