In a rare move, the Citizens Coalition for Change leader, Nelson Chamisa has commended the ZANU PF led Government for its education policies that have seen Zimbabwean academics excelling in foreign countries.

Speaking at a memorial service for the late Dr Alex Magaisa in the capital yesterday, Chamisa said the Government should be applauded for academically empowering its citizens.

“Kune chinhu chatinoda kuti tiite acknowledge.Mukaona Dr Magaisa vakwanisa kuenda ku Kent University as a lecturer. Mukaona Professor Mutambara (Arthur) vaenda ku MIT to be one of the super star intellectuals in the world, it tells you kuti education yedu panewo chakanaka chatinofanirwa ku acknowledger,” said Chamisa.

Chamisa also hailed the freedoms brought by the liberation struggle.

“Vamwe ndoziva kuti vachati ko mukuru akuita sei. But there are good things zvakaitwa. The liberation struggle produced some of the finest things we must celebrate. Education is one of them. Sovereignty of the people is one of them. The ability to have one many one vote is what we fought and is what the liberation struggle was fought for,” said Chamisa.

Political analyst, Terrence Chipwanya said that it was refreshing to hear Chamisa applauding the gains of the liberation struggle.

“It’s refreshing to hear Chamisa acknowledging the gains of the liberation struggle. We expect to hear Chamisa speaking more of the goodness of the current Government instead of attacking it every time,” said Chipwanya.

Chipwanya added that Chamisa should know that without the illegal sanctions, Zimbabwe could have been a developed country.

“Chamisa is applauding the best brains we are exporting outside the country. But he should know that without sanctions, Zimbabweans would be producing best brains with the potential to turn around the fortunes of the world and raise the Zimbabwean flag high. I urge Chamisa that in his future speeches, he should speak more as a Zimbabwean than the West’s puppet,” added Chipwanya.

This is not the first time for Chamisa to applaud the ZANU PF led Government as in 2012 when he was still the  ICT Minister, he applauded the Government for providing quality education for its citizens.

Speaking at the launch of the National e-Learning Programme at Chogugudza Primary School in Goromonzi, Chamisa applauded the then President the late Cde Robert Mugabe and his Government for excellent leadership.

“Your Excellency, we are here to celebrate the signature, a footprint and the indelible mark of a successful education system, a system that not only has produced doctors and engineers but a young minister like myself,” said Chamisa then.

In many occasions, Chamisa has been speaking ill of the country and failed to acknowledge some of the good things being done by the Government. However, this latest change of political stance has been welcomed by many Zimbabweans.
