ZANU PF by-election candidate for Harare East constituency, Cde Mavis Gumbo, said she was confident and was expecting a landslide victory.
Addressing ZANU PF members at Courtney Selous Primary School during the launch of her election campaign yesterday, Cde Gumbo said hard work, coupled with a manifesto that answers to the challenges of the Harare East residents, will ensure a victory for her and the Party on 26 March 2022.
“The large numbers I am seeing here gives me confidence that victory is certain. I want to thank you people of Harare East for showing confidence in me. I want to assure you that once we win this seat, I will work towards transforming Harare East in line with President Mnangagwa’s policy of leaving no one behind in terms of development,” said Cde Gumbo.
Cde Gumbo said Harare East was greatly underdeveloped when it was in the hands of the opposition legislator Tendai Biti. She added that the recalled former Harare East legislator, Biti, has done nothing for the Harare East residents and urged members to vote for ZANU PF, a Party with a proven track record.
“Biti has done nothing for the people of this constituency. He is good at using vulgar words against President Mnangagwa and other Government officials. He doesn’t have a strategy for this constituency. On 26 March, let’s vote out Biti,” added Cde Gumbo.
Cde Gumbo further said that people always want a political party which is people-oriented and said it was only ZANU PF which had those qualities.
Speaking at the same gathering, ZANU PF Harare Provincial Chairperson Cde Goodwills Masimirembwa said as a Party, they have devised a strategy to win back all seats that were in the hands of the opposition.
“We have devised a strategy to win back this seat. This time, the opposition will be shocked as we will whitewash them. I urge you to go in your numbers and vote for ZANU candidates during the 26 March by elections,” said Cde Masimirembwa.
Cde Gumbo will be contesting against Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) co-vice president Tendai Biti, Precious Musarurwa of Labour Economists and African Democrats (LEAD), Gilbert Mbwende from MDC Alliance and Shelton Mupambwa of Patriotic Zimbabwe.
