National University of Science and Technology (NUST) student hostels are towards completion as the building construction has taken shape.

Government’s Transitional Stabilization Program (TSP), has been of much assistance in alleviating NUST students’ accommodation crisis.

Speaking to this reporter a NUST Student, Shamiso Chibaya said most students were facing accommodation challenges at the prestigious Zimbabwean University.

“Quite a number of students are facing accommodation challenges and most of us are seeking accommodation out side the University campus. We are paying USD20 per head for accommodation outside the campus and at times we are forced to share rooms at times with five people putting us at risk of infections. We are happy at least that Government is concerned about our upkeep,” she said.

After completion the hostels are expected to accommodate more than 1000 students. The construction of NUST student hostels is being funded by the Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) which commissioned the development in 2017.  

Similar students’ accommodation developmental projects are to be carried out at Lupane State University, the Chinhoyi University of Technology, Bindura University of Science Education, the Catholic University of Zimbabwe and the University of Zimbabwe.
