Kuwadzana residents slam council over poor service delivery

Residents from Kuwadzana high density suburb are up in arms with MDC led Harare City Council for its failure to supply clean and safe drinking water as well as garbage collection.

In an interview with Harare Post yesterday, Mr Enock Magaya from Kuwadzana constituency where MDC president Nelson Chamisa is currently House of Assembly representative, said the council's failure to provide meaningful services to rate payers was mainly due to corruption and greediness.

"The challenges we are facing now are as a result of corruption in councils. The MDC councillors we chose are incompetent, corrupt and inconsiderate. They are good at corruptly allocating themselves and their relatives residential stands.

"We have had no tap water for over a week now and when it comes it will be dirty, exposing us to diseases such as cholera. Our refuse has not been collected for weeks and our Member of Parliament, Nelson Chamisa is also failing to assist us a sign that he is failing to run the constituency," he said.

Magaya expressed dismay over Chamisa’s failure to develop his own constituency, yet he is promising heaven on earth for the people of Zimbabwe.

“What surprises me is that he is always busy preaching national development. If he is failing to develop his home area, will he be able to develop the whole country. That man is playing with us, taking us for fools,” he said.

Most MDC-T led councils have been affected by mismanagement of council resources including rate payers’ money, misplaced priorities and greediness. They prioritise awarding themselves hefty salaries and allowances at the expense of service delivery. This will definitely affect them come election.
