Zimbabwean citizens have attacked former United States of America Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Harry Thomas for taking a dig at government leaders whom he accused of concentrating more in wealth accumulation and power maintenance over service delivery.
The citizens argued that the United States sanctions were causing much of the problems the country is currently facing.
In an interview with PBS News, Thomas also accused government leaders of importing maize from Tanzania at inflated prices, fuelling corruption and mismanagement among other unfounded accusations.
Responding to Thomas’ sentiments, Collen Musoni highlighted that sanctions were the major contributing factor to Zimbabwe`s crisis.
“You must understand and acknowledge the impact of the illegal sanctions as well, yes there is corruption but much of the troubles are as a result of those sanctions. As long as you ignore that we will not take you serious as Zimbabweans,” he said.
Nobleman Runganga weighed in twitting that, “Harry Thomas should shut the hell up. Uncle Sam is playing global war monger in order not only to police sovereign states of the world but plunder their resources using local stooges.”
Rutendo Matinyarare dismissed Thomas sentiments responding that the US government is perpetuating a crime against humanity upon the Zimbabwean people through sanctions and to listen to what they think of their crime upon our people is absurd.
Mr Thomas was accused of having a hand in 2016 disturbances in Harare and Bulawayo where property worth thousands of dollars was destroyed, while vehicles belonging to the police and the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) were burnt to shells by the MDC-T youths who ran amok in Harare Central Business District.
In 2017, the MDC through Mr Thomas dispatched its leader, Nelson Chamisa and the then People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mr Tendai Biti under the banner Movement for Democratic Change Alliance to engage the US civil society and members of the Donald Trump administration in an effort to have funding and destabilise the nation.
