An MDC affiliate, Defence of Morgan Tsvangirai Legacy (DMTL) has lambasted MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa for failing to uphold the party’s founding principles and the legacy of the late founding president of that party, Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.
DMTL held a meeting in Epworth last week where speaker after speaker took turns to slate and accuse their leader of a litany of misdemeanours.
MDC Epworth District Youth Assembly Chairman, Tatenda Mufakose said that Chamisa was incapable of leading the party. He accused him of working in collaboration with the G40 cabal to push out veteran and loyal MDC members.
The youth chairman further castigated Chamisa for indoctrinating the party youth and turning them into “mechanized zombies who blindly follow him.” He urged the youths to resist Chamisa’s hooliganism.
Speaking at the same meeting DMTL steering Committee Chairman, Simon Hove slated Chamisa for allegedly fanning division within the party. He said that Chamisa had a tendency of disregarding the party’s constitution. He went on to criticize the party’s new policy of station based branch structures and dissolution of wards and districts. He said the new policy was unconstitutional.
Hove accused Chamisa of being overzealous and as dictatorial as Robert Mugabe. The charged Hove said that Chamisa adopted the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa structure format in order to destroy the legacy of Tsvangirai.
“MDC under Chamisa’s leadership is a world apart from the original MDC of the late Tsvangirai’s epoch. This boy has completely abandoned the founding principles of the party due to his despotic tendencies,” Hove charged.
Hove discouraged party members especially youths not to participate in any demonstration called by Chamisa.
Divisions continue to rock the MDC as veterans and loyal party members are losing confidence towards the youthful leader. A new faction led by that party’s vice president, Tendai Biti has emerged, adding on to a number of existing factions within the embattled party. Biti poses a more serious threat to Chamisa as has become more popular with the west.
Another MDC affiliate called, MDC Veterans Activist Association (MVAA) also lost trust in Chamisa whom they accuse of abandoning the founding principles of the party. The two affiliates, DMTL and MVAA said the MDC has been turned from a labour party, but into a capitalist party.
