ZANU PF’s victory in Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park (ward 28), an erstwhile MDC stronghold, has been described by political analysts from across the political divide, as an indication of a paradigm shift in the political landscape.
Posting on his twitter handle, one netizen identified as Jekanyika Tambaoga, dispelled assertions that ZANU PF supporters are few and that the win in ward 28 was due to rigging.
“There is absolutely no evidence to support the assertion that ZANU PF supporters are few. Just look at the parliamentary results and you will see what I’m talking about, the MDC always fools itself because of social media participation and predictions not realising that the silent majority is decisive.”
Ben Paradza explained the reason MDC A lost in the by-elections, placing all the blame on Nelson Chamisa’s candidate imposition and dictatorial tendencies in the formation of party structures.
“Chamisa wasn’t even there to campaign for his party candidate. He was campaigning for himself, convincing people he is a better Presidential material while the party was crumbling and losing. Great leader he is?? And you hear the mob chant saying CCC, we need a better leader and narrative,” said Paradza.
William Du Plooy reiterated that, “I didn’t even know there was a by-election and I watch Zimbabwean politics like crazy. If I didn’t know, then how is anyone else supposed to know? Someone is not doing their work.”
“I feel MDC A is totally losing it, the way the president is running the party is unacceptable. It’s like Nkosana Moyo’s APA. I tell you we have never seen this, it’s him and Tendai Biti alone who are visible. We are just destroying everything so as to support one centre of power,” added another netizen.
“The MDC has no intention to successfully contest elections, in fact, Chamisa and others use it as a fundraising joint to supplement their lives, it is apparent to believe that it is profitable to remain in opposition politics than to govern,” retorted one netizen only identified as Zambilo Mazambani.
Recently the MDC Alliance has been embroiled in in-house politics as it has failed to do proper restructuring of its party structures due to constant imposition of candidates by Chamisa. Chitungwiza and Kuwadzana are the latest casualties that have seen the ugly head of violence.
Zanu PF’s Kidwell Mujuru won the by-election by 1 899 votes against MDC A’s Nomagugu Mloyi and Collet Ndlovu who got 1 229 and 221 votes respectively.
