President Emmerson Mnangagwa commended the Civic Society Organisations (CSOs), which he met in Bulawayo recently, for having their country at heart and trying to make it a better place.
“I go back today knowing that the social groups NGOs and Civic Organizations have their country at heart. We have different perspectives of the issues that affect our different communities, where we stay or where we operate. Not to make things worse but to make things better,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said he was grateful to the organizers of this event and looked forward to more.
“Most importantly, I congratulate the Matebeleland collective for initiating and beginning the process which other sectors of the communities will follow,” he said.
Responding to this speech by President Mnangagwa on the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services twitter handle, Jarmaine Fredricks tweeted saying, “We are all but one, but different views. That is why Jesus said love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Your opponents can only make you a better person. Change is good; it makes you appreciate the other.”
Trucila Mutasa also responded saying, “It goes a long way in terms of healing and being together especially in the context of this speech. It is nice to see the President speaking from the heart and not reading scripts.”
This meeting helped mend the hostile relations CSOs had with the ruling ZANU PF Government and it was the first step to a healthy and productive relationship between Government and CSOs.
