The Taskforce on infrastructure development set up by Government recently is on a nationwide tour to check on the progress of Government infrastructure development projects.
The Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services said a taskforce set up by Cabinet and led by Retired General Chanakira had arrived today at High Glen and Gleneagles roundabout construction site to commence its job on its quest to check progress of various infrastructure development projects across the country that the District Development Fund (DDF) was undertaking solely or with other stakeholders.
“High Glen and Gleneagles roundabout is the first site that the Taskforce set up by Cabinet to check on the progress on infrastructure projects across the country has visited amongst various others intended to be visited today. The Taskforce is led by Retired General Chanakira from the Vice President’s Constantino Chiwenga’s office.
“DDF is mandated to provide and maintain sustainable rural development infrastructure, tillage, transport and other services so as to uplift the living standards of rural people. The DDF’s main goal is to change the social infrastructure in disadvantaged rural areas. Services include construction of small dams, schools, clinics; drilling, repairs and maintenance of boreholes, setting up, repairing and maintaining irrigation and road construction,” said the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services on its twitter handle.
The Taskforce proceeded to inspect the progress of road works on the Harare to Bindura, Matepatepa and Mount Darwin, where a ring road connecting later three was inspected.
“Sections of the Harare-Bindura road have also been inspected by the Taskforce, contracted work is for 20 km and part of works includes the part between Lomagundi Road to the Zimbabwe Defence University in Harare.
“In Bindura, Matepatepa and Mount Darwin, the Taskforce inspected a ring road which measures 95km; this road will link farming areas. The project is in its first Phase and 16km is presently under work,” said the Ministry.
Matepatepa is known for its agricultural activities. This road will lower farmers transport costs in terms of moving inputs and produce. Government Taskforce is ensuring all projects it approved are completed on time. Marginalised areas are soon going to be benefiting from the resuscitation of their key economic activities a move expected to contribute to economic growth and livelihood improvement.
