Former President Mr Robert Gabriel Mugabe (95) has been hit by senility, a mental decline associated with old age.
A close relative who attended Mr Mugabe`s 95th birthday celebrations at his Borrowable home last week confided in the Harare Post that the nonagenarian occasionally referred to her wife, Grace Mugabe as Grace Gono. It was not clear to many whether the Gono that he was referring to was the former Reserve Bank Governor or not.
To this end, political analysts concluded that Mr Mugabe with his advanced age is no longer a credible news maker.
During the same occasion, Mr Mugabe attacked President Emmerson Mnangagwa that he was not God and that his power will not last forever and strongly condemning the deployment of soldiers to quell the January 14 violent protests which was organised by MDC and Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU).
Social media was awash with reactions to Mr Mugabe`s speech with netizens arguing that Mr Mugabe himself is not a saint and was a brutal and ruthless leader who was hero-worshipped by his bootlickers during his reign. Netizens also said that Mr Mugabe was the chief engineer of the Gukurahundi massacre where thousands of lives were lost. Other people also raised that Mr Mugabe during the heated 2008 election caused the death of opposition elements who were tortured and assaulted.
Last year, Mugabe also used his private birthday celebrations to attack President Mnangagwa and on the eve of the July 30 presidential elections told his supporters not to vote for President Mnangagwa.
During the last days of his reign, Mr Mugabe because of his old age, failed to pronounce Zanu PF slogan occasionally saying “pasi ne Zanu PF.”
