When one goes through political stories in some sections of the media, they would think Zimbabwe is at some kind of a war. The reportage is synonymous with political genocide, a typical portrayal of the Rwandan genocide between the Hutu and Tutsi ethnic groups. Articles are structured to invoke the utmost hatred of ZANU PF in any individual that dares to look at some of these conveyor belts of lies that are pushing for a change in the country’s political leadership at any cost.
It, however, took a simple soccer match to reveal what Zimbabweans are really made of; right from the bottom of the social cement of Ubuntu ‘hunhu,’ being human first. ZANU PF youths clad in their black outfit and the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in the yellow outfit were to pity one another on a soccer pitch. Soccer is indeed a unifying sport. MDC-T, LEAD, FEEZ and NCA partook in this symbolic soccer tournament on 25 May 2022 commemorating Africa Day. Regardless of the diverse political backgrounds and diverse political leadership, the youths found each other reminding everyone else that we are Zimbabweans before anything else.
Like pawns on the chess board, for far too long political, supporters have been moved one against the other. At the end of the day, somebody would then cry more than the bereaved. Some became chief mourners, known for not missing any of the village funerals that befit their mission; to taint Zimbabwe.
Many a times, CCC leader Nelson Chamisa, is seen gallivanting at these funerals where the deceased were declared victims of ZANU PF’s alleged violence by ‘Madziro Committee’ heresy peddlers. Names of the perpetrators were thrown around, but the choruses would just fizzle away. Surely when a life is lost under the so claimed unclear circumstances, does the story just go away like that?
Let us not digress any further, back to the main story. The Soccer match between ZANU PF and CCC youth thus makes the truth play out drastically into the open. Instead of being a Chinese shaolin soccer clash, that is the fusion of karate moves and football skills; the match was to trend on social media with CCC Youth Assembly Deputy Chairperson, Cecilia Chimbiri’s images illuminating at any forum where this debut was discussed.
Enter Hopewell Chin’ono. This is one funny character who believes in more harm creating some good at the end of the day through some zodiac beliefs he alone understands. He is that guy who thinks more sanctions will certainly emancipate Zimbabwe from ZANU PF. Hopewell hopes Zimbabwe’s hopes are in portraying a hopeless situation altogether.
The Hopeless character sadly has some followers that trace his footsteps blindly. It is them that then took hate language against women a notch higher. He taught them so by continuously harping on LEAD leader, Linda Masarira’s alleged inability to bath herself. The cheer leaders were to take on Chimbiri accusing her of bedding ZANU PF member, the one who organized the soccer match. Simply because she attended the soccer showdown, like really? I hope the picture is now clear.
The youth played their hearts out, social media went into frenzy. It was all joys and jubilation. The youth told the world the Zimbabwean story in a soccer match. The 90 minutes held the Zimbabwean flag so high, proving wrong a myriad of political falsehoods and fabrications. Anyways, zvibaba zvakazoti zvapindira.
When we talk of vadiri vejecha, maboora ngoma; vatyori vehosho enemies of progress tinonongedza ani apa?
Are we talking of the youth, the people that are being led or it is some rogue political leaders and their mouthpieces? The voice of the people is certainly the voice of God. The youth spoke and the world should hear about this story.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is on record indicating that there are economic hitmen deployed against Zimbabwe. They are bent on making the economy scream just to prove a political point. If a soccer match can be played down in the manner I just portrayed in the preceding paragraphs, what more of an entire economy? Zimbabwe is certainly under attack from none other, but the same people who claim are on a mission to rescue it.
It is high time the Patriotic Bill is enacted and we account for some political and economic saboteurs. The unabated hate that is being given out by these individuals will certainly degenerate into some anarchy of elephantine proportions in the history of Zimbabwe. Hopeless individuals cannot be left to douse the spirit of ‘ubuntu’.
Long live Zimbabwe, ahoyi to many more soccer and economic matches. Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo. Brick by brick, together we can build the Zimbabwe we want.
