Addressing the media after Cabinet session yesterday, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa said the two tennis umpires were Fridlanger Kadzombe and Kossam Mhangami.
“The nation is also informed that two Zimbabwean tennis umpires, Fridlanger Kadzombe and Kossam Mhangami, are officiating at the 2022 edition of the Wimbledon Championship being held in London. The 135th Wimbledon Championship, which began on 27th June 2022, will end on the 10th July 2022. This is the first time in history that two Zimbabwean officials have officiated at this prestigious event,” said the Minister.
Minister Mutsvangwa added that the Zimbabwe Rugby National Team (Sables) recently beat Ivory Coast in the on-going 2022 Rugby Africa Cup in Marseille in France. She added that in the event that Sables won the tournament, they would automatically qualify for the 2023 World Rugby Championships.
“Cabinet further noted progress being made by the Zimbabwe Rugby National Team (Sables), which beat Ivory Coast at the on-going African Champions and is vying for a 2023 World Cup qualification. If Zimbabwe wins this tournament, the country will automatically qualify for the 2023 World Rugby Championships,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
Minister Mutsvangwa also said that Government congratulated the Zimbabwe Moot Team which won in the finals after defeating Netherlands in the 2022 Euro Moot Curt Competition.
Meanwhile, Zimbabweans have been excelling in the sporting fraternity around the world. Recently a 4X100m men’s relay team won a bronze medal at the CAA Senior Championships in Mauritius 2022. Other Zimbabweans such as Marvellous Nakamba and Jordan Zemura have become vital cogs for their teams in the English Premier League.
