The elections were held on 30 July and President Emmerson Mnangagwa was declared the winner, a fact which was confirmed by Chief Justice Luke Malaba and his eight member bench on 24 August 2018 following a Constitutional Court petition by the MDC Alliance presidential election candidate, Nelson Chamisa.

Despite the negative publicity Zimbabwe used to have President Emmerson Mnangagwa is receiving a lot of admiration from investors across the globe ahead of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly, (UNGA). His glory train is certainly unstoppable given the theme of the assembly which affords him the forum to unpack and push for the values that would transform Zimbabwe to its glory days.

Since arriving in New York for this year’s United Nations General Assembly summit on Thursday President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his delegation have been busy with meetings and interviews as various media houses, countries and companies are dying to hear from them on how the country intends to move forward since the founding leader of the nation, Robert Mugabe resigned in November last year and President Mnangagwa took over.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, on Wednesday, departed Harare for New York, United States (US), where he is scheduled to attend and address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 73rd session for the first time since he took over the reins from Zimbabwe’s longest serving former President, Robert Mugabe.

Despite the challenges at home which include the cholera outbreak and economic challenges, President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to travel to New York for his maiden United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) summit next week. Given the weight of the affairs at home, ordinarily, the President would have foregone this auspicious occasion but this would also mean leaving potential investments, networking opportunities crucial meetings on the table at a time that the country badly needs them to facilitate economic recovery and improve the people’s livelihoods.
