TTLC to establish three solar MW power Plant

By Rudo Saungweme

In a move that will see the improvement of electricity in the country, Tanganda Tea Company Limited (TTLC) is set to establish three solar power plants that will produce 6.3 MegaWatts (MW) of electricity.

An employee who works for TTLC said, "As part of its social responsibility, Tanganda Tea Company Limited (TTLC) has reserved US$6 million for the construction of three solar power plants.

"TTLC did this initiative because some of the electricity power generation methods like diesel generators are now increasing operational costs by at least 12 percent."

The employee added that the unavailability of electricity was also making it difficult for business operations, adding that this development will help everyone apart from the business fraternity.

The power plants, revealed the employee, are expected to be fully operational before the end of 2020.

"The power plants will be fully functional by 2020.This means that it is not so long before the electricity challenges being experienced in the country is optimised.

"TTLC is complementing the efforts by both the Government and the private companies in mitigating the electricity challenges," said the TTLC employee.

Government is doing all it can to solve the electricity challenges. Earlier this year, Government removed duty on all solar equipment. The Government is encouraging the use of other power generators so as to ease the burden on Zimbabwe Electricity Company (ZESA) of power generation.
