Bitterness consumes a person and it gets to a point where everything rubs them the wrong way. They will always feel defensive, moody and have frequent anger outbursts borne out of degeneration of personality after years of nastiness. This applies to MDC Vice Chairperson Tendai Biti, who is not liked by many even in his party. This follows Biti’s failure to secure nomination to any post from the opposition MDC structures in North America, ahead of the party's Congress set for May 24, this writer is sure the trend will continue as MDC structures treat Biti, with a long stick.
Biti is always defensive, bitter and spew out puke every time he opens his mouth, which in my opinion should be washed out with soap.
MDC structures are not quick to forget the acrimonious way Biti parted ways with the late Morgan Tsvangirai. Biti and other senior members of the then MDC T attempted to torpedo Tsvangirai from the leadership of the party but were forced out and formed a splinter party, the failed People’s Democratic Party.
Biti was only given a lifeline after PDP joined the MDC Alliance prior to the 2018 harmonised elections, short of that Biti will have been in the political dustbin, not even holding the Harare East parliamentary seat he is currently enjoying.
There is a Shona idom that says “Kuipa kwechimwe kunaka kwechimwe” hence Biti is a beneficiary of Tsvangirai’s death or else he would never have returned to the party as Tsvangirai would not have let him back in after he accused Tsvangirai of being unfit to lead MDC T, whilst Tsvangirai accused Biti of looting the party coffers.
Biti who wants to present himself as squeaky clean is no saint. He once fought with Tsvangirai over the party’s assets which included offices and vehicles. He also registered the assets in the name of a company called Laphonic Enterprises, he had formed and was Director at the time. This goes to show how corrupt Biti is, and those in the MDC with long memories have not forgotten this shady past.
Chamisa should be weary of Biti the “friend” of the American as he is back in MDC not to play second fiddle to anyone, he is buying his time to snatch the top post. However, following recent events of vote of no confidence from structures in North America, Biti should see that it’s going to be tall order to worm his way to the top, as people are sceptical of him.
Biti’s problem is, he thinks he has the God given brains to ever grace the nation. Whilst in government of national unity he accused others of incompetency, yet can we really point to something that he achieved when he was Minister of Finance? He failed as a Finance Minister, yet he considers himself a guru in economics that he is constantly accusing the Minister of Finance and Economic Development Professor Mthuli Ncyube of failing to do his job well. Yet to date Ncube has done a splendid job, coming up with austerity measures and 2% tax return which is earning the Government the much needed spending money.
The vote of no confidence by the MDC North America branch shows the foretaste of things to come during the watershed MDC congress in May. Even if Biti gets nominated for some post, he will never pull through as he is a liability to the party because of his volatility. .
