Trevor Ncube under fire over alleged neglect of arrested journalist

Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) Chairperson Trevor Ncube is facing mounting criticism over his handling of the arrest of Hearts and Soul TV (HStv) Director and journalist, Blessed Mhlanga.

While AMH staff members are reportedly relieved by Mhlanga’s incarceration, accusing him of having caused disruptions within the company, questions are being raised about Ncube’s response to the situation.

A source within AMH revealed that Mhlanga’s arrest has been met with quiet celebration among some employees, who believe his departure marks a turning point for the media house.

“There is a feeling that things might run smoother now. He had a way of making things difficult,” the source said.

However, the same source questioned Ncube’s stance, accusing him of abandoning a journalist who once worked under his leadership. Despite publicly claiming to be offering support, Ncube’s assistance to Mhlanga’s family has reportedly been minimal.

“He says he is helping, but his contributions are barely anything maybe a loaf of bread here and there. It’s disappointing given their history,” the source alleged.

More concerning, according to the source, is Ncube’s reluctance to fund Mhlanga’s legal defence. Instead of providing financial aid, Ncube is said to be pushing a political strategy, reportedly coordinating efforts to pressure authorities through opposition-linked activism.

“His approach is to mobilise online campaigns instead of hiring lawyers. Some believe this is backfiring because it’s drawing more attention to the case rather than helping Mhlanga get out,” the source explained.

The situation has sparked debate over whether Ncube is genuinely concerned about Mhlanga’s welfare or merely using the case to serve broader political interests. Critics argue that a more direct approach such as funding a strong legal defence would be more effective than fueling political pressure.
