The Second Republic’s commitment to empowering war veterans continues to bear fruit, with former freedom fighters benefiting from the Presidential War Veterans Fund.

In a ceremony filled with song and dance, war veterans in Muzarabani, Mashonaland Central Province, became the latest beneficiaries, receiving US$150 000 as part of the Government’s promise to leave no one behind.
The Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs, Senator Monica Mavhunga, highlighted the Government’s unwavering commitment to honouring those who played a pivotal role in securing Zimbabwe’s independence.
“This ministry now stands as a testament to His Excellency, Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa’s dedication to those who sacrificed for our country’s independence. The Presidential War Veterans Fund is meant for outstanding projects and initiatives that not only acknowledge the service history of the country’s veterans of the struggle but also the crucial role they have played in educating future generations and enhancing the wellbeing of the veteran community in Zimbabwe,” she stated.
Zanu PF leaders in Mashonaland Central Province commended President Mnangagwa for prioritising the welfare of war veterans.
Mashonaland Central Zanu PF Provincial Chairperson, Kazembe Kazembe commended the President’s dedication, stating, “His Excellency this year has shown he means business, and war veterans who are at the core of his prominence have witnessed his dedication and commitment towards their welfare, and for that, we applaud him.”
War Veterans League Chairman, Douglas Mahiya, also weighed in, stressing the importance of using the funds responsibly.
“The War Veterans League has become the biggest winner this year, and everyone is set to be empowered financially. From agriculture to mines, we have been given a chance that we need to make good use of and not put him to shame, hence we say 2030 he must continue,” he remarked.
For many of the war veterans gathered in Muzarabani yesterday, the event was more than just a financial boost, it was a recognition of their sacrifices for Zimbabwe’s independence. The initiative underscores the Government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the country’s liberators are not left behind in economic development.
“The President has shown his love towards us. Since his election into power, we have a ministry that focuses on us, and now this launch of the Presidential War Veterans Fund is a testament to his commitment as he himself is a veteran of the struggle,” said one of the beneficiaries.
The Presidential War Veterans Fund has allocated a total of US$1.5 million, demonstrating the Government’s long-term vision for war veterans’ economic empowerment. Mashonaland Central Province becomes the third province to benefit, following successful distributions in Masvingo and Mashonaland East Provinces. Other provinces are also set to receive funding as the Government ensures that no war veteran is left behind.
The initiative serves as a reminder that the sacrifices made by Zimbabwe’s liberators will never be forgotten. With continued Government support, war veterans are being positioned not just as historical figures but as key players in Zimbabwe’s economic development.
