The Member of Parliament for Beitbridge East, Albert Nguluvhe, has publicly commended Government for its proactive approach in fixing roads that have been severely compromised by the season's heavy rainfall.
During a recent comprehensive tour of his constituency, where he assessed the status of various capital projects, Nguluvhe expressed his satisfaction with the visible progress on road repairs.
"I was delighted to witness the significant improvements on the Dumba to Dite road, which is under the jurisdiction of the Beitbridge Rural District Council," Nguluvhe remarked during his visit.
He highlighted how the intense rains had wreaked havoc on the local infrastructure, particularly roads, which are vital for accessing key services such as health centres and schools. He further elucidated how the damaged roads had forced schoolchildren into taking much longer and often unsafe detours to reach their educational institutions, stressing the ongoing road rehabilitation projects as vital relief, offering a safer and more direct route for these students.
Nguluvhe also took the opportunity to acknowledge the active participation of the Beitbridge East community in these repair efforts. This community involvement is in line with the Government's push for "inward development," emphasising local empowerment and control over local development projects.
Further, he praised President Mnangagwa for prioritising and facilitating these local development projects, ensuring that the available resources are effectively utilised for community benefit.
An employee from the Beitbridge Rural District Council, who chose to remain anonymous for professional reasons, provided an update on the council's plans.
He stated that preparations were underway to extend the road refurbishment to more areas once they secured enough fuel, signalling a commitment to further enhance the local infrastructure.
Meanwhile, development experts have said that the improvement of road infrastructure in the country highlights the synergy between Government efforts, local governance, and community participation in shaping the country's development.
