The Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) has announced the appointment of Dr. Nomusa Jane Moyo as its new General Manager, effective immediately.

Dr. Moyo, who has been serving as the Acting General Manager since July 2023, officially assumes the role after earning the trust of the Board through her cumulative four years of acting experience in the position.

The decision, announced by MMCZ Board Chairman, Jemister Chininga, reflects the Corporation’s confidence in her leadership and extensive expertise in the public and private sectors.

Dr. Moyo brings to the position a wealth of experience gained over 24 years in various public entities.

Her career includes eight years at the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, a year at the Grain Marketing Board, and more than a decade at MMCZ, where she has held various roles since joining in December 2009.

In addition to her operational experience, Dr. Moyo has served as a board member for several private and public institutions, further enhancing her governance credentials.

Chininga emphasized that her strong background and proven capabilities made her the ideal candidate to lead MMCZ into the future.

As the exclusive agent responsible for marketing and selling all minerals produced in Zimbabwe, with the exception of gold and silver, MMCZ is a vital component of the country’s mining sector.

Under Dr. Moyo’s stewardship, the Corporation is expected to continue its mission to develop new markets, enhance mineral resource accounting, and maximize returns for stakeholders.

Chininga expressed optimism about her ability to provide visionary leadership, saying, “We are confident that Dr. Moyo’s expertise and vision will guide MMCZ towards sustained success, fostering growth and creating value for all stakeholders.”

Dr. Moyo’s leadership has already yielded tangible results during her acting tenure.

In 2024, the Corporation achieved a 21 percent increase in mineral sales, rising to 3.9 million metric tonnes from 3.2 million metric tonnes the previous year.

Her proactive approach also opened up new export markets for Zimbabwean minerals in countries such as Australia, China, Colombia, Burundi, and India.

To curb mineral leakages, she spearheaded investments in laboratory equipment for local government facilities, significantly improving mineral assay and characterization processes.

Furthermore, Dr. Moyo played a pivotal role in establishing a gemstone cutting and polishing training centre at the Zimbabwe School of Mines, a project that aligns with the country’s emphasis on value addition and beneficiation.

Dr. Moyo is qualified for the challenges of her new role, holding a Doctorate in Laws specializing in corporate governance, a Master of Laws, a Bachelor of Laws, and a BSc Honours in Economics.

She is also a member of the Law Society of Zimbabwe and the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute of Zimbabwe.

Her corporate governance expertise is well-established, with her contributions as a writer, lecturer, and presenter at both local and international forums.

In her new role, Dr. Moyo will oversee the strategic direction of MMCZ, focusing on fostering growth, building stronger relationships with stakeholders, and ensuring that the Corporation continues to play a central role in Zimbabwe’s economic development.
