Zimbabweans have applauded Russia’s E-Visa Scheme describing it as a major step in fostering international relations and boosting travel convenience. The scheme allows travelers from Zimbabwe to enter Russia and stay for up to 16 days without the need for hotel bookings or documentation confirming the purpose of their visit.
In an interview with this publication, prominent analysts applauded the initiative, highlighting its potential benefits for Zimbabwean travelers and the broader bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Russia.
Economic analyst and consultant, Dr. Tapiwa Mahoso said the e-visa scheme is a game-changer for Zimbabweans looking to explore opportunities in Russia.
“This development simplifies travel for Zimbabweans, especially businesspeople and students seeking educational opportunities in Russia. The removal of cumbersome requirements like hotel bookings and documentation makes it much easier to plan trips,” he noted.
According to Russia’s official guidelines, the e-visa application process is conducted entirely online, with decisions issued within four days. The efficiency of this process has drawn praise from international relations expert Dr. Rudo Bwanya, who said it reflects Russia’s commitment to strengthening ties with Zimbabwe.
“This move signifies Russia’s intention to promote people-to-people relations with Zimbabwe. It’s not just about tourism; it also opens avenues for cultural exchange, trade, and education.
“Zimbabweans can now explore the Russian market with greater ease, which aligns with the Government’s thrust to expand international trade and cooperation,” Dr Bwanya added.
The e-visa initiative has also been lauded for its potential to boost tourism between the two countries. Travel and tourism expert, Mr Victor Mupamhanga said the 16-day entry period provides Zimbabweans ample time to explore Russia’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
“This is an excellent opportunity for Zimbabweans to travel, experience new cultures, and even build networks. The straightforward application process will encourage more people to visit Russia, which is known for its architectural landmarks and world-class events,” Mupamhanga remarked.
Meanwhile, the e-visa scheme could inspire other nations to adopt similar measures, thereby facilitating global mobility for Zimbabweans.
With relations between Harare and Moscow already on an upward trajectory, this latest development is expected to deepen ties, while providing Zimbabweans with new opportunities to connect with one of the world’s largest nations.
