Distressed MDC Alliance members have attributed their 30 July election defeat by the ruling ZANU PF party to lack of voter mobilisation, lack of party regalia as well as failure to motivate party agents, a direct contrast to opposition party leader Nelson Chamisa`s claims that ZANU PF rigged the harmonised election.
An unnamed source within the MDC Alliance revealed to Harare Post that MDC Gokwe Gumunyu District Assembly Vice Chairperson Alex Machata admitted in a District Assembly Executive meeting held early this week in Gokwe that the opposition party`s dismal performance during the July 30 harmonised election was due to its failure to provide adequate party regalia and also to motivate polling agents.
It was highlighted during the meeting that the party failed to pay its two hundred and eighty polling agents before the poll date which led to the agents neglecting their duties on Election Day. It was also noted that the opposition party was not clearly visible on the ground due to lack of material and financial resources.
ZANU PF legislator for Gokwe Gumunyu constituency Steven Ngwenya out classed MDC Alliance candidate Zacheo Tagwirei after he polled fifteen thousand one hundred and seven (15107) while Tagwirei garnered two thousand five hundred and ninety three (2593).
