Bulawayo based biscuits and sweets manufacturer Lobel’s Biscuits and Sweets, the country’s largest biscuit manufacturer has injected $1.48 million in expansion of its Biscuit confectionary plant in Bulawayo.
The company has invested in a multi-million dollar in refurbishing the new plant and machinery.
The development comes at a time President Emmerson Mnangagwa is preaching the need to revive Zimbabwe’s economy and re-industrialise Bulawayo as an economic hub.
During the campaign period, President Mnangagwa visited Bulawayo where he promised the revival and awakening of the industry sector in Bulawayo.
The giant firm has lately experienced some economic challenges and the new dispensation has revived hope in the business.
Sources privy to the development reported that Lobels has raised $900k towards the expansion and acquiring new plant and machinery.
A worker at the company who could not be named for professional reasons said the move will see the number of employees rising from 712 to 832.
It is believed that the expansion will see an increase in export earnings from $1.1 million to $2 million per annum.
According to management, the expansion is set to be commissioned by November 2018
