Chiredzi Central Member of Parliament (MP) Ropafadzo Makumire has launched the Constituency Educational Assistance Program (CEAP), an initiative aimed at supporting disadvantaged children in the rural areas of his constituency.

The program, which will begin by assisting 20 learners from Nyawagi Primary School in Ward 31, is designed to provide comprehensive support, including school fees, uniforms, shoes, and stationery for the beneficiaries.

During an address to the parents and guardians of the selected children, MP Makumire explained that the program would be funded through his parliamentary allowances and donations from well-wishers both locally and abroad.

"I will be funding the program from my allowances as well as resources mobilized from well-wishers in the constituency and abroad. These children are the future of our country, and we need to invest in them. I, too, was once helped to get to where I am today, and I see this as a way to give back. The initiative was not politically motivated but rather a developmental effort aimed at investing in the future of the nation," said Makumire.

The program has been warmly received by the local community, with parents expressing relief and gratitude.

One parent shared, “I want to thank the MP for this sponsorship. I have been struggling to provide for my child’s school needs, and now I feel a sense of relief. I hope this program will extend to other parts of the constituency where there is also a need.”

The CEAP is focused on children from Wards 31 and 19, located in Hippo Valley Estates, areas predominantly managed by black farmers. The first group of beneficiaries, all from Nyawagi Primary School, were selected by the school's staff and School Development Committee (SDC) based on their financial needs.

Through CEAP, MP Makumire aims to help bridge the gap in educational access for children in these economically disadvantaged areas, providing them with the tools they need to succeed.
