Buhera West Constituency is abuzz with gratitude and optimism following President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s national launch of the 2024/25 Pfumvudza/Intwasa climate-proofed agriculture initiative.

The event, held yesterday in Buhera West  Constituency at Gwebu Village, has been widely lauded as a significant step toward rural development and food security, aligning with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 of transforming the country into an empowered, prosperous upper-middle-income society by 2030.

Speaking at the event, Buhera West Constituency Member of Parliament, Tafadzwa Mugwadi, expressed his appreciation for President Mnangagwa’s decision to launch the program in his constituency.

“We are incredibly grateful to President Mnangagwa for choosing Buhera West for this important launch. This is a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to uplifting rural communities and ensuring that no one is left behind. The work done by the Second Republic is exceptional, and we are confident this initiative will set a positive tone for the upcoming agricultural season,” said Mugwadi.

Mugwadi emphasised that the Pfumvudza/Intwasa program aligns with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, aimed at fostering sustainable development and self-reliance across Zimbabwe.

“The President’s vision for an empowered, prosperous Zimbabwe is one we fully support. The launch of this program in Buhera West is not just about agriculture; it is about strengthening food security and creating opportunities for rural communities to thrive.

“The initiative promotes conservation agriculture practices, which help small-scale farmers maximise their yield even under unpredictable weather patterns. It aims to enhance food security at the household level, ensuring that families can sustain themselves throughout the year,” he added.

Chief Fish Gwebu, a traditional leader in the region, echoed similar sentiments, praising the President for his efforts to uplift rural communities.

“This is a milestone achievement for Gwebu Village; since I was born, we have never seen such a transformative project in our community. President Mnangagwa has remembered us, and his decision to bring this initiative to Buhera West shows that he truly cares about the development of all parts of the country,” he said.

The event also marked the distribution of agricultural inputs, including seeds and fertilisers, to local farmers.

Beneficiaries were overjoyed, expressing their gratitude as they received their supplies.

“This is a game-changer for us. With these inputs, we can now look forward to a better harvest, and we are thankful to President Mnangagwa for making this possible. We are pleased with the drilling of boreholes and the construction of the Gwebu Village Business Unit, which will focus on fish farming as well as the cultivation of crops such as butternut, cabbages, and green mealies. These projects are expected to provide sustainable income sources for the community, boosting local economies and improving livelihoods,” explained one beneficiary.

As the 2024/25 agricultural season approaches, the Buhera West Constituency community remains optimistic, with many viewing the recent launch as a beacon of hope. The launch of the Pfumvudza/Intwasa program, a climate-resilient agricultural scheme, comes at a crucial time as Zimbabwe continues to tackle the challenges posed by climate change.
