Reports have emerged alleging that certain individuals within Zimbabwe are being financially incentivized by the country’s enemies to incite and organize violent demonstrations ahead of the upcoming SADC Summit.
The orchestrated effort is purportedly aimed at tarnishing the image of the Government, potentially undermining the success of the summit and the country’s standing in the region.
A highly placed source who spoke to this publication under conditions of anonymity revealed that prominent figures, including Nelson Chamisa's lawyer, Thabani Mpofu, political activist Hopewell Chinóno, Namatai Kwekweza, Job Sikhala and Jacob Ngarivhume, are among those allegedly involved in the plot.
According to the source, these individuals have been identified as key players in a coordinated campaign designed to foster unrest during a period when Zimbabwe is set to host regional leaders.
“There is a well-funded agenda at play. Certain individuals are receiving substantial sums of money, which is being distributed from a specific Western embassy in Harare, though I will withhold the name, to organize these demonstrations. The goal is to create chaos and discredit the Government just as the SADC Summit convenes,” the source disclosed.
The revelations point to a broader network of individuals and media personnel who have allegedly been drawn into the scheme.
Among those named is Pardon Gambakwe of Gambakwe Media, who, according to the source, is on the payroll to push for and encourage Zimbabweans to engage in unsanctioned demonstrations.
“It’s not just about those in the political or activist spheres; media figures are also being co-opted to fuel this unrest,” the source elaborated.
The source further revealed that cyber trolls have been recruited to further inflame public sentiments online.
These individuals are reportedly receiving stipends to propagate messages that encourage Zimbabweans to participate in lawless activities.
“This operation is multi-faceted. Not only are boots on the ground being paid to organize and lead these demonstrations, but there is also a concerted effort to manipulate public perception through media and social media channels. It’s an all-out attempt to destabilize the country during a crucial time,” the source continued.
As these allegations come to light, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reiterated his commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Zimbabwe.
The President has frequently assured citizens that Zimbabwe is a peaceful nation, and he has vowed that the country’s law enforcement agencies will not sit idly by in the face of these threats.
