The People's Republic of China has donated to the Republic of Zimbabwe. 300 boreholes will be drilled across the country through this partnership.

The launch of this transformative programme was marked by a rousing keynote address delivered by the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Hon. D Garwe.

Speaking at the launch of the Project in Mahusekwa, Minister Garwe revealed that the province and nation still had clean water challenges in some parts of the country due to natural disasters in previous years.

"As we all know, a significant number of people were affected by Cyclone Idai and there are still lacking safe drinking water and the problem was exacerbated by El Nino-induced drought." reiterated Garwe

The Minister showered praises on his Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa who made an international appeal following the declaration of the National state of Disaster sometime this year.

The China-Aid programme is a veritable oasis in the desert of our water woes, quenching the thirst of communities that have long been parched by the cruel drought and going to drill 300 boreholes through Min of Local Government & Public Works.

The 300 boreholes to be drilled across Zimbabwe as follows :100 boreholes in Manicaland Province ,68 in Masvingo ,66 Mashonaland East and the remaining 66 in the Midlands Province.

"300 boreholes to be drilled across the country under the auspices of a disaster." added Garwe.

The boreholes will also serve lives of our livestock in need of water as the day goes by.

The audience, comprising all Council Chairpersons, councillors, Chief Executive Officers, DDCs, development partners, and community members were present.

"Today, we turn the page on a new chapter in the history of our beloved province," she declared, her voice carrying across the crowd like a clarion call. "The thirsty land shall be quenched, and the weary souls shall find respite." Said Ms Manhukwe, the DDC from Seke District.
